The first Seeing Habit is to Aim High in Steering.

This may sound odd, but it makes very good sense once you understand it. Many people limit themselves by only seeing a short distance in front of their vehicle. They line up the hood and fender with the centerline or edge of the road to guide themselves along.

However, this habit may not be as effective as one that allows you to choose a safe path well ahead of your vehicle.

Imagine a quarterback throwing a pass to his favorite receiver. He picks a spot where the receiver will be, then throws to that spot. A pass is completed when the receiver and the ball arrive at the spot at the same time.

You should drive in a similar manner. Aim at a target well ahead of your intended path and then keep advancing this target as you proceed. By aiming high in steering you have a better chance of seeing obstacles sooner and choosing a clear path to your target.
