The third attribute of defensive driving is Attitude. And, not just any attitude but a positive attitude.

Your attitude is something you and only you can control. While we can’t change how others act, a positive attitude can be a valuable asset to how you act and react in any given circumstance.

Think about it. Have you been in driving situations where your attitude has influenced your reactions in a negative way? You may have wanted to “get even” or “teach them a lesson.” Negative reactions rarely have a positive outcome. Losing your temper does not contribute to defensive driving.

Remember, you are in charge of your attitude! Keep it positive!

Now, let’s turn to what The National Safety Council calls the 5 Seeing Habits of defensive driving and how they relate to the 3 Attributes you’ve just seen.
