MODULE
2: ACCOUNTABILITY
Elements of an Effective Accountability System
Element 5. Appropriate Application of Consequences
Do consequences progress in significance?
If an employee continues to violate a particular safety rule, it's most effective if the resulting level of discipline progressively more significant. If a consequence does not change the behavior in the desired direction, the employee is likely perceiving the consequences as insignificant. If the behavior changes in the desired direction, the consequence has achieved significance.
